Truman High School Cafeteria Renovation

Bristol Township, Pennsylvania

Truman High School, located in Bristol Township, Pennsylvania, serves approximately 1,500 students across four lunch periods. Originally constructed in the 1960s, the school underwent a cafeteria renovation in the early 1990s. Over 30 years later, it was time for a much-needed upgrade. Brandon Lang, Food Service Director for Bristol Township School District, noted that the existing equipment was deteriorating – the wells were leaking, and the equipment was barely functioning. There were ongoing challenges with temperature control, water issues, and concerns about food safety. Beyond equipment failures, the district sought a more visually appealing serving line to enhance the dining experience for students.

Urgent needs included wells capable of reliably maintaining hot and cold food temperatures. Versatility was crucial as the district participates in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program for breakfast and lunch. Lunch participation currently ranges from 64% to 67%, with expectations to increase thanks to the new equipment.

The renovation introduced three new serving lines featuring dual-tier frost tops, accommodating six sheet pans — a significant increase that reduces the need for cashiers to make frequent trips for replenishment. QuickSwitch technology was included to give even more flexibility as it allows wells to switch from hot to cold to frozen within one hour.

In January 2025, Brandon Lang evaluated five manufacturers before selecting Succession Reps. According to Brandon, Succession Reps stood out for his responsiveness, attentiveness to the district’s needs, and professionalism. The project team, including the school’s maintenance team, Steve Kauf with PJP and Dan Kaufmann with Succession Reps, ensured a smooth process from start to finish.

Existing Conditions

The replacement took place over a concise timeline: the old equipment was removed on a Monday afternoon, the area prepared for new installation, and by Tuesday morning, the new equipment was delivered and installation began. By Wednesday afternoon, the serving counters were fully installed and cleaned, ready for use. On Thursday, students welcomed the new serving lines, marking a fresh chapter in the school’s food service operation. The students absolutely love the new cafeteria. Students commented that they “feel fancy.” Lang noted “I could not be prouder to give the district new serving lines of this caliber!”
